It’s that time of year when many of us are wrapping up the year and evaluating the impact that we made over the past months. There’s still time to make an impact in your community. If you’re considering a year-end donation, please check out one of my favorite organizations, Community Partnership for Child Development (CPCD).
CPCD prepares children for success in school and in life by providing excellent comprehensive early childhood services in partnership with diverse families and the community.
CPCD…giving children a head start prepares our community’s most vulnerable young children, prenatal to age five, for success in school and in life. At the same time, CPCD partners with their parents in a two-generation approach — knowing that lives are changed when both young children and their families are simultaneously supported in achieving goals that lead to success.
It’s all about the brain! From birth, a child’s brain is alive with neuron connections and synapse development. 80% of the children in CPCD programs live in poverty while the remaining 20% experience circumstances that may put them at risk of falling behind. When families have limited resources and stress levels in their home are high, children’s brain development slows and their foundation becomes fragile. High quality early education has an immediate impact and children thrive.
Knowing that parents are their children’s first and best teachers, CPCD provides a full range of family engagement activities. Family advocates work with parents to set goals for themselves and their children. Parent volunteer and education opportunities support parenting skills, job preparation, financial literacy, health and nutrition, at home reading programs and more!
